What devices are NOT compatible with Alva Link?
We believe in being upfront about limitations:
Air-to-air heat pumps (split AC units): These typically lack Modbus, OpenTherm, or SG-Ready interfaces. Most use proprietary infrared or WiFi protocols designed for comfort control, not energy management. Alva Link is designed for hydronic heat pumps (air-to-water, ground-to-water, water-to-water) that provide central heating and hot water.
Fully closed ecosystems with no local or cloud API: A small number of devices have absolutely no accessible interface — no Modbus, no OCPP, no cloud API, no SG-Ready, no outdoor sensor input. These are rare in the European market, but they exist.
Devices without energy management protocols: A standard household appliance (oven, washing machine, dryer) that isn't "smart" can't be controlled by Alva Link. We believe these units will be used either way at the time you want to so controlling these did not make sense for us. You can put Alva Link in Bridge mode to get access to the unit inside a smart home system.
