Do I need an internet connection for Alva Link to work?

Five of Alva Link's six communication protocols run entirely wired, with zero cloud dependency: Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, OpenTherm, SG-Ready, and sensor spoofing. OCPP for EV chargers also runs locally over your home network.

This means that all Essential (free) features — scheduling, fuse protection, load balancing, bridge mode, and direct device control — work without an internet connection.

With this said you need an internet connection while setting it up and sometimes when you need to change something. It can also be that you want to do software updates that require cloud. But we try to run things as local as possible.

Autopilot features require internet connectivity because they depend on external data: electricity price forecasts, weather data, and vehicle cloud APIs. If your internet drops temporarily, Alva Link falls back to the last known schedule and continues operating locally until connectivity returns. Your home never goes dark because of a cloud outage.
